Statewide Ice Storm Cleanup Costs Top 250 Million

Frankfort, KY – Utility damage estimates from the ice storm exceed 250-million dollars, says Andrew Melnykovich of the Kentucky Public Service Commission. Utility cooperatives may be able to recoup most of their repair damage from federal disaster funds, but Melnykovich says that's not the case for investor-owned utilities. "And those would be LG&E, Kentucky Utilities, Duke Energy Kentucky and Kentucky Power, which is part of the American Electric Power system."

A Tragedy That Could Have Been Avoided

Lexington, KY – The recent mauling of a Stamford, Connecticut woman at the hands of her friend's pet chimpanzee, has once again raised serious questions as to whether people should be allowed to keep apes and monkeys as pets. Charla Nash was critically injured when she was attacked by Travis, the pet chimp, owned by her friend Sandra Herold. This week we had a chance to talk with April Truitt who runs the Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville about the tragedy that she says could have been avoided.
