Kentucky to Get New Voting Machines

Louisville, KY – Voters in 34 Kentucky counties will cast ballots using a digital scanning device, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State's office.

Secretary of State Spokesperson Les Fugate says some counties asked for the new devices amid voter concerns about problems that occurred in Florida during the 2000 presidential election.

There have never been any major issues with the old machines in Kentucky.

KY-6: Defense Attorney Challenging Incumbent

Lexington, KY – Jon Larson is a well-known Lexington defense attorney running as the Republican for the Kentucky 6th Congressional District seat. He describes himself as someone who represents the interests of poor people, the handicapped, immigrants, and prisoners.

Larson is challenging incumbent Democrat Ben Chandler.

Another Kentucky Lawmaker Involved In Traffic Accident

Frankfort, KY – Frankfort Rep. Derrick Graham was returning from a legislative committee meeting in Murray Monday afternoon when his car went off the I-65 ramp to the Blue Grass Parkway. The vehicle went down a ravine after Graham tried to avoid a construction barrel. Graham was not severely injured, but spent the night in Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Early Release To Continue-For Now

Frankfort, KY – Attorney General Jack Conway says the Corrections Department is improperly interpreting budget language that allows the early release of state prisoners to save tax dollars. Corrections is giving inmates credit for parole time, or street time, even if they violate parole and are returned to prison.
