Fayette Clerk Blevins To Step Down Early

Lexington, kY – In a media release this morning, Blevins cites the changes to the pension system that makes it to his financial advantage to bow out before the end of his term, which was to be in January 2011. Blevins successor will be appointed by County Judge-Executive Sandra Varellas. An election for the position will be held fall of 2010. Blevins has served the city of Lexington continuously for the past 35 years. First as an Urban County Councilman, then as Fayette County Clerk, a position he has held since 1982.

Silberman Wins Second "Super Of The Year" Honor

Lexington, KY – Silberman received the honor yesterday in Louisville during the annual meeting of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators. Silberman will find out tomorrow whether he is one of four finalists for the national award. Silberman has been head of the state's second-largest school district since 2004.
This is Silberman's second "Super of the Year honor". He also won it during his tenure as Daviess County Public Schools' Superintendent prior to coming to Lexington.

UK Announces Plans To Construct "Digital Village"

Lexington, KY – UK President Lee Todd, joined Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry and three major private contributors to unveil the first two phases of the project during a ceremony today / Monday. Todd says the Digital Village is the university's first construction project that'll be funded by private donations, with matching funds coming from the state's "Bucks For Brains" program.

Beshear - Mongiardo Accepting 10% Pay Cuts

Frankfort, KY – Later this week, Governor Beshear will announce how the administration will deal with a projected 456-million dollar state revenue shortfall. He warns his plan will require sacrifices by everyone in state government, and he and Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo will begin by taking ten percent pay cuts in the next calendar year. "It's obvious that this is not going to substantially affect the shortfall. But it's a symbol."
