Displaying Military Treasures Beyond Vets Day

Frankfort, KY – Andrew Carman of Jimtown, Kentucky was born in 1895. In 1916, during the First World War, he was drafted by the U.S. Army. An African-American, Carman was not allowed to mix with white units from the United States. So his engineering division, the famed "Harlem Hellfighters," fought alongside the French Army, where they experienced terrifying bombardments during trench warfare.

Pre-filed Bills Represent A Mixed Bag For Next Session

Frankfort, KY – So far, 114 bills have been pre-filed for the 2010 session, which begins January 5th. Senators have filed 18 bills, including legislation by Sen. Joey Pendleton to legalize the growing of hemp.

Sen. John Schickel will again try to limit media access to 911 calls. And Sen. Damon Thayer wants to amend the constitution to allow casino gambling in counties with horse tracks.

LIHEAP Signups Way Up

Lexington, KY – Jack Burch says last year over 47-hundred people enrolled in the LIHEAP subsidy program; in the first week of eligibility this year, he says over 28-hundred have already signed up.

(The numbers are quite high we are a bit surprised, we have approved 2827 households and have already expended about 325 thousand dollars income.)

Burch says different types of individuals and families are filling out applications this year.

City Amps Up Crackdown On Properties Near UK Campus

Lexington, KY – On Monday, Fayette Circuit Judge Ernesto Scorsone granted the city a temporary injunction concerning a house on Woodland Avenue that was found not up to code. Newberry signified just last month that property owners would either comply or find themselves taken to court.
