KY Misses Cut Again For Race To The Top Program

Frankfort, KY – Earlier this year, Kentucky was a finalist to share $600 million in federal funds to improve schools and close the achievement gap. Kentucky's potential share? $175-million. But Tennessee and Delaware were the only winners.

In July, Kentucky was again a finalist in the second round of Race to the Top, along with 17 other states and the District of Columbia. But again, Kentucky's application, which did not include charter schools, has been rejected.

Campus Comes Together For UK Fusion

Lexington, KY – Fusion, which stands for For Unity and Service In Our Neighborhood, is an annual event that gives freshmen and upper classmen the opportunity to lend a hand at over one hundred local sites. Mary Kate Fields is the Executive Director of UK Fusion.

"Retirement homes, neighborhoods, parks, non-profit agencies, we're going to help clean and organize, do some clerical work. We're going to Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, so we have a lot of different kinds of projects today."

Family Foundation Challenges Instant Racing

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Family Foundation of Kentucky wants a say in the court case testing the legality of instant racing. The state's horse racing commission is seeking a judicial ruling on Instant Racing, or electronic wagering on previously run races.

Martin Cothran of the Family Foundation says Instant Racing is just another form of casino gambling.
