UK Research Team Studying Children and ATV Safety

Lexington, KY – Dr. Andrew Bernard, a trauma surgeon with UK Healthcare, says in his team's lab experiments, young riders operate two different sized ATV's while navigating a computer generated virtual course. What they're hoping to demonstrate is that fitting the child to the proper frame can cut down on rollover crashes.

International students get a taste of an American holiday

Lexington, KY – They're thousands of miles from home, but UK's international students have found a warm welcome for Thanksgiving right here in Lexington.

Nearly three hundred students, some with their families, came to the Multicultural Student Thanksgiving Dinner Tuesday night in the Grand Ballroom at the UK Student Center. The menu featured traditional dishes like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pie.

Slain Officer Memorialized With Renamed Street

Lexington, KY – Officer Bryan Durman, who was struck and killed by a motorist while he was responding to a call, drove down Hilo Street everyday for roll call at the department's Central Sector Call Center. From now on that street will be known as Durman Drive.

City Needs to Sell $4 Million in Property to Help Budget

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The possible sale of four million dollars in city-owned property was the focus of an Urban County Council Budget Committee meeting Tuesday at City Hall. Lexington Finance Commissioner Linda Rumpke presented council members with a "what if" scenario that would mean a huge dip into the economic contingency fund.

God's Pantry Hands Out Record Number of Thanksgiving Boxes

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Thousands of low-income families will have a bountiful meal this week.

Governor Steve Beshear and the First Lady helped distribute boxes of food Monday morning at Broadway Christian Church in Lexington. God's Pantry spokeswoman Mandy Brajuha says the food bank will hand out around 55-hundred boxes in Fayette County this year as part of its Sharing Thanksgiving program.

KY Officials Ask Retailers to Stop Selling Caffeinated Alcoholic Beverages

Frankfort, KY – A statement from the Public Protection Cabinet on Monday says the action by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control was sparked by a warning the Federal Drug Administration issued last week. The agency sent letters to four manufacturers calling the caffeine added to the beverages an "unsafe food additive."

The companies have 15 days to respond to the letters and either explain how they will take their products off the market or defend their drinks as safe.
