Beshear Says Everything Is On The Table In Dealing With Worsening State Economy

Frankfort, KY – Governor Beshear says he will immediately begin formulating a plan to address a projected 456-million dollar revenue shortfall, and then take it to the people during December. He says everything, including radical spending cuts, will be on the table. "The shortfall is just too large and it comes too far along in the fiscal year. Let me be clear. I'm talking about cuts that will bring pain to our people."

WEG Picks Up Another Sponsor

Lexington, KY – Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear was on hand at the Kentucky Horse Park Friday to announce that John Deere is the "Official Equipment Sponsor" of the 2010 FEI World Equestrian Games. Beshear says the farm equipment company will provide a variety of grounds care equipment to be used during the event, some of which will remain onsite for use even after the games are over.

State Economy Worse Than Originally Estimated

Frankfort, KY – The Consensus Forecasting Group believes the state could be facing a 456-million dollar deficit this fiscal year, which is worse than the 294-million predicted by Governor Beshear. Lawrence Lynch chairs the forecasting group. "Consumer confidence declining. Retail sales declining. Unemployment rising. New claims for unemployment insurance rising. I mean, none of the news has been good."

Beshear, Yarmuth, Decry Bush Administration Mining Proposal

Washington, DC – Kentucky is the third largest coal producing state in the country, but Yarmuth says the state's rivers and streams are also a critical natural resource. So when the Office of Surface Mining asked the Environmental Protection Agency to allow companies to mine near those streams, Yarmuth objected, pointing out they would never get this passed after January.

Lexington Hospitals Now Officially Smoke-Free
