Student Denied Records Request

Frankfort, KY – In February, Esther Bays sought records connected with a grievance she filed against Maysville Community and Technical College. Specifically, she wanted a blank copy of all written exams and the final exam administered in the Nursing 203 class last fall. She also wanted notes from an interview conducted on her Student Discrimination Grievance.

Lexington, KY – WUKY Commentator Cara Richards normally submits essays about education and the economy, but today Ms. Richards shares an interesting theory on the ups and downs of a college basketball game. Cara is Professor Emerita in Sociology and Anthropology at Transylvania University, and she was one of the first to teach a course in the Sociology of Sports.

Beshear-Time Will Tell If Special Session Needed

Frankfort, KY – Alcohol and tobacco tax hikes designed to offset a half-billion dollar deficit in the current fiscal year kick in April 1st. But on July 1st, the second year of the biennial budget begins, and that's what keeping Governor Beshear up at night. "We obviously are going to be evaluating our budget situation as we move along for next year and that issue looms very large over the future and it's something that could spark additional activity at some point."

2009 Session Now History

Frankfort, KY – The governor's incentive package, which included tax breaks for the Kentucky Speedway, was among legislation failing to win final passage before lawmakers left town. Track officials were hoping to use the incentives to attract a NASCAR Sprint Cup race. "Here we have a company who is ready to perhaps invest 50-to-75-million dollars to renovate and expand Kentucky Speedway, if the incentives are in place, and right now the incentives aren't in place."
