Candidates Release 1st Quarter Fundraising Figures

Bowling Green, KY – SENATOR BUNNING PULLED IN NEARLY 263-THOUSAND DOLLARS, COMPARED TO THE 420-THOUSAND RAISED BY KENTUCKY LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DANIEL MONGIARDO.
HE'S ONE OF THREE DEMOCRATS WANTING TO CHALLENGE BUNNING IN THE 2010 RACE. EVEN THOUGH MONGIARDO OUTRAISED BUNNING IN THE FIRST QUARTER, THE TWO-TERM G-O-P SENATOR SAYS HE'S STILL AHEAD. HE POINTS TO 650-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN DEBT LEFT OVER FROM MONGIARDO'S UNSUCCESSFUL BID TO UNSEAT BUNNING in 2004.

Education Chief Search Gets More Problematic

Frankfort, KY – On February 1st, after former Education Commissioner Jon Draud resigned for health reasons, deputy commissioner Elaine Farris was named interim commissioner. But Farris has now accepted a job as the new superintendent of Clark County Public Schools. Lisa Gross of the Education Department says Farris begins her new duties July 1st. "It would only be for about a month that Elaine would not be here because the board wants to have a new commissioner in place by August."

A Candid Conversation With Journalist Howard Fineman

Lexington, KY – Each year the University of Kentucky's School of Journalism invites a distinguished member of the national media to deliver the Joe Creason Lecture. This year's headliner is Howard Fineman of Newsweek, NBC, and MSNBC.com. He also wrote for the Louisville Courier Journal before going national. Bryan Bartlett caught up with Mr. Fineman earlier today.

Session By The Numbers

Lexington, Ky – Seven-hundred-34 bills were introduced during the session, 190 in the Senate and 544 in the House. That compares to 795 bills introduced in 2007, which was also a short session. One-hundred-one bills, or 18-point-five percent of all bills introduced this year, were approved and signed into law.

UK Mourning Loss Of Wildcat Great - Staff Trustee

Lexington, KY – Former University of Kentucky Wildcat Great, Mike Casey died of heart complications at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was 60. Casey was the leading scorer at UK as a sophomore in the 1967-68 sason. A car accident sidelined him for the 1969-70 campaign, but he returned a year later and finished his Kentucky career with over 1,500 points; making him the thirteenth all time leading scorer at UK. Funeral arrangements for Mike Casey are pending.
