Beshear Says State Economy Faces "Ominous Future"

Frankfort, KY – First, Governor Beshear wants a new revenue projection from the Consensus Forecasting Group. Second, the administration will formulate a plan to address the shortfall and third he will take the plan to the people. He says a special session may be necessary during the January recess of the 2009 General Assembly. "Really, with December having Christmas and the holidays in it, it almost dictates that we end up doing a special session, if we have one, in January."

Obama Effigy: Death Threat or Protest?

Richmond, KY – Leaders at the University of Kentucky, the city of Lexington and the state of Kentucky quickly condemned a hanging effigy of Barrack Obama as racist. But a quick look at online blogs show some people defending the effigy as legitimate political protest.

Louisville, KY – Two years ago, the race for Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District seat was a tight one, with Democrat John Yarmuth unseating Republican incumbent Anne Northup. Natural Gas Prices Going Up This Winter

Louisville, KY – Most of the natural gas that will be used this winter was purchased and stored in the summer, during a price spike. That was caused by a rush on Wall Street to purchase commodities, which seemed safe in an uncertain market.

Kentucky Public Service Commission spokesperson Andrew Melnykovych says the same uncertain market may protect prices from another spike next year.

KY Sec. Of State: "We're Ready For Election"

Frankfort, KY – There are 3,550 precincts in Kentucky, with 2,800 polling locations. On Election Day, almost 15,000 poll workers will staff them. Secretary of State Trey Grayson is expecting long lines.

"If you're in line at 6:00 p.m., you can vote no matter how long that takes. We have seen in the past couple of years, those lines have been an hour to an hour-and-a-half, to two hours long, with that many people standing in line at 6:00 p.m.," Grayson said.
