UK To Honor Crash Victim At Commencement Ceremonies

Lexington, KY – As graduate students of the University of Kentucky's College of Health Sciences receive their diplomas Saturday, they will pause to remember and honor their classmate, Scarlett Parsley Hooker. Her life was cut short by the Comair Flight 5191 tragedy. Bryan Bartlett has the story.

The Road Less Traveled

Lexington, KY – Carole Haurylko obtained her biology degree from York College in Pennsylvania in 1979. But after charting a career path, then raising two daughters as a stay at home mom, she resumed her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. At the urging of her husband, Carole enrolled in a special second degree program offered by UK's College of Nursing.

Switchgrass Showing Promise

Frankfort, KY – It's called Switchgrass, and it's a tall-growing, warm weather grass that once covered the commonwealth. Now, it's being touted as an alternative energy source, and a pilot project in eastern Kentucky is showing promise. University of Kentucky agronomist Tom Keene says 70 tons of ground-up Switchgrass, grown by Kentucky farmers in 12 counties, is being mixed with coal and burned at an East Kentucky Power plant in Mason County.
