Group Paints Gloomy Economic Picture

Frankfort, KY – It's bad out there, and although there are glimmers of hope, nobody's sure when the current recession - one of the worst on record - will end. That was the gist of analysis offered to the Consensus Forecasting Group, a panel of economic experts that advises the governor and legislative leaders. State economist Thomas Jones says all of Kentucky's leading index growth rates have been negative since February 2008. The recession began in December 2007.

CFG Says KY Economy B-A-D

Frankfort, KY – Housing starts in the U-S haven't been this bad since 1945. Light vehicle sales, which have been averaging around 16-to-17-million a year, are below nine million. Even used automobile sales are off. It's gloomy out there, says Larry Lynch, who chairs a panel of economic experts advising Governor Beshear and legislative leaders. "It is pretty glum, as we heard today."

Lextran Launch Program Jettisoned

Lexington, KY – This week Lextran had to pull the plug on its new free ride program, Lextran Launch, due to some unruly passengers. The program was meant to give school-aged kids the chance to learn about bus safety and mass transportation, but
bad conduct by some means the end of the free rides for all. Lextran
spokesman Dave Riggins, says the bus company tried to make the program work.
