Young People Compete For Top Honors In Bluegrass Goes Green Competition

Lexington, KY – Bluegrass Goes Green is a summer youth program that engages teams of young people to assess the "greenness" of 11 counties in the Bluegrass region and develop a plan to improve their communities environment. If Money Talks, Who Talked Loudest?

Frankfort, KY – The Legislative Ethics Commission's July report indicates health care interests spent $1.3 million lobbying lawmakers during the 2009 regular session.

Energy and utility groups were second, spending $561,000. Racing and gambling interests were third, spending $419,000. Next were public and private organizations, tobacco interests, banking and financial services and the insurance industry.

New Education Chief Starts Today

Frankfort, KY – After his July 17th hiring by the state school board, Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday took a family vacation. His first day on the job is Wednesday, which is also when the school board meets in regularly scheduled session. "He will be in attendance at the meeting, so he most likely will do some homework before he gets there just to sort of get up to speed. But this is sort of a trial by fire on your first day on the new job."
