How School's Choose Principals Could Soon Change

Frankfort, KY – Under the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990, school-based councils choose principals. But legislation sponsored by Rep. Kent Stevens, would let superintendents make the final choice if, within three weeks, school councils are unable to reach agreement on a finalist. "I just feel, in my opinion, that the superintendent sees the total picture and knows what's best for the school system. And you'd be crazy not to want the best person."

Jesse Crenshaw has sought passage of a constitutional amendment allowing automatic restoration of voting rights for felons who have done their time. Each year, by increasingly wider margins, the Lexington Democrat's bill has sailed through the House, only to quietly die in the Senate. But Crenshaw's not giving up. He's back with the bill again.
