Lexington Habitat To Collect Then Recycle Paint

Lexington, KY – Habitat spokesman Bill Wood says the paint will be recycled, re-formulated, and re-sold.

"We blend it, or bulk it, put it in five gallon drums and then sell it at our ReStore at 451 Southland Drive. As always, the money that we make from sales of the paint, or any other items at the ReStore helps to fulfill our mission - to provide safe, decent and affordable housing and provide home ownership opportunities to families in Fayette County".

Mayoral Candidates Talk Tax Reform

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – With tax revenues down, candidates in the Lexington's mayoral race were asked Wednesday night about tax reform. They were participating in one of the last candidates' forums before this month's primary election.

Incumbent Jim Newberry says the city needs tax reform but believes the state will likely not pass the necessary legislation.

Flooding Is Normal Part of Life on the River

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – Kentucky's capital city was spared loss of life and major damage in this week's record flood. Over the course of two days, Frankfort took on some 5 inches of rain.

Kentucky Poll Out on U.S. Senate Race

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – A new poll shows the Kentucky democratic primary race for U.S. Senate is still close, but on the GOP side, a political newcomer may pulling away from his chief rival.

Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo leads Attorney General Jack Conway 39 percent to 32 percent in the Kentucky Poll, which showed 17 percent of respondents undecided and 12 percent favoring lesser-known candidates.

Republican Rand Paul has a 12 percent lead over Secretary of State Trey Grayson, with 17 percent of voters undecided and seven percent saying they would pick other candidates.

Repairing Storm Damage Will Cost Millions

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- – Kentucky will feel the effects of this past weekend's storms for quite some time. Buddy Rogers with the state Emergency Management Agency says local authorities continue to assess the flood damage.

"As this water recedes, we're going to see major damage to our roadways, the infrastructure itself. We do anticipate large dollar figures in repairing our road structures."

Seventy Kentucky counties and 24 cities and towns have declared states of emergency.

Statewide Primary Turnout Expected To Be Light

Frankfort, KY – In the comparable election year of 2006, 28-percent of Kentucky Republicans and 31-percent of Democrats went to the polls in the primary. Based on that, absentee balloting and anecdotal reports, Secretary of State Trey Grayson believes voter turnout May 18th will be around 30-percent. "But you've got to remember this is going to vary significantly from county to county. There will be counties that'll have 60-percent turnout most likely. And there will be counties that will have 10-percent."

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- – The Lexington community and law enforcement agencies from around the region honored a fallen police officer Tuesday. 27-year-old Bryan J. Durman was laid to rest after he was killed in the line of duty last week.
